A zimtwaffel. That's "cinnamon waffle" in German. It's a dense, lightly sweetened cinnamon cookie that originates from the German state of Saarland.
Is it like a stroopwafel?
Imagine a stroopwafel but without the super sweet filling. In other words, just wafel, no stroop.
A better comparison would be a Belgian butter waffle, only thicker and more biscuit-like.
So like a waffle cone, or a pizzelle?
Almost, except better! These waffle cookies are thicker (about 5mm). They have a flakey, buttery texture, a touch of cinnamon and the perfect level of sweetness - delicious and satisfying, without evoking an ounce of guilt.
These cookies are the perfect snack! And make excellent s'mores.
These are my favorite cookies!
I could eat these things all day.
